Skunks are all over the United States and getting into trouble all the time. To work with these animals, one must know there capabilities, and general attitudes. Over the past 30 years or so, I think I have them figured out. I do get surprized from time to time, but not very often. Let me give you the run down real fast on what mister skunk is all about and we can take it from there.

A skunk is a small animal about the size of a cat. He is generaly black, with white stripe running down his back, with a pointed nose and bushey tail. His small eyes are capable of seeing, but only short distances. His hearing is good, but not great, and he cant run verry fast. His nose is the strong point of a skunk. He can smell a worm under the soil 4 inches down! And his front paws can dig very well. The animal I discribed doesnt sound so terrifying does it? So then why do people scream and run when they see him? Its because of one little thing I forgot to tell you. He can spray a stinkey liquid and hit a target 15 feet away. The spray is made of sulpher compounds and is loaded with oil and grease, to make it last longer, and hang on you for weeks if all you do is shower. But lets be real here, if that little buger didnt stink, he would be extinct! He has enemies, coyotes and owls, fox all like to eat skunk. So the skunk goes out at night, and moves slowly to test the air with his super nose to make sure that he isnt hunted while he hunts for mice, small birds, eggs, worms, snakes, and fruit. He doesnt make much of a noise to comunicate, just a squeeking sound, and he will warn attackers by first stomping his feet and squeeking, then by flaring his tail and pointing his rear end at them. If the attacker continues, he is going to get a quick education on what aq skunk can do! I hope you enjoyed reading this little artical, theres more to come!
